From The Heart of Our Heritage – The Territory of Identity
At the center of this work, a vibrant red anatomical heart emerges from a structured world of geometric forms, abstract figures, and earthy colors. The composition explores identity as something constructed from many interconnected pieces—ancestry, culture, place, memory, and personal experience.
The geometric language surrounding the heart evokes the visual traditions and ancestral heritage of Mesoamerica while moving toward abstraction. Human forms appear almost like symbols, suggesting generations and communities whose stories continue to exist within the present. Ochre, black, deep blue, cream, and red connect the composition to earth, ritual, architecture, and history.
The red heart becomes the living element within this carefully constructed territory. While the geometry represents structure and inheritance, the heart represents what continues to evolve: our emotions, experiences, relationships, and individual interpretation of heritage.
