The Territory of Roots explores the places, people, memories, and experiences that shape where we come from and the invisible connections we continue to carry wherever life takes us.
Roots are not always tied to one place. Migration can separate us from familiar landscapes, languages, traditions, and people, but it can also challenge us to grow new roots without losing the ones that formed us.
Through The Heart Series, Roots becomes a reflection on movement, displacement, resilience, and the search for solid ground. It asks us to consider what “home” truly means when our lives exist between where we came from, where we are, and where we are still becoming.
We may leave a place, but we carry its roots within us.
BETWEEN EARTH AND SKY
What happens when the roots remain, but the ground disappears?
There are moments in life when we find ourselves suspended between what we once knew and what has not yet become home.
We carry memories of places, people, languages, sounds, and traditions—some vivid, others slowly fading. They travel with us, becoming invisible roots beneath everything we are becoming.
In The Territory of Roots, the familiar relationship between roots and earth is interrupted. Nothing is completely grounded. Nothing is completely lost.
The works exist in that space between leaving and arriving, memory and possibility, absence and belonging.
Perhaps home is not always the place beneath our feet.
Perhaps home is what we learn to carry within us.
Then, farther down the page, I would create a little mystery:

If everything familiar disappeared tomorrow, what would remain rooted inside you?
A memory.
A face.
A language.
A smell.
A place.
A story.
