“In early 2023, I did not know I was beginning a series. I was simply following the heart.”

THE STORY BEHIND THE HEART SERIES
What began as a personal exploration became a territory to discover.
In early 2023, after returning from Phoenix, I began to recognize recurring patterns in the way I moved through life behaviors, responses, and ways of thinking that I wanted to better understand and transform.
I began with a simple decision: to look inward with curiosity rather than judgment.
Writing became my first tool. I started documenting thoughts, questions, and discoveries through short reflections and quotes. As I shared them, I noticed that experiences I considered personal often resonated with others. That realization changed the direction of the work. I began to understand that beneath our individual stories are emotions, questions, and experiences that connect us as human beings.
WHY THE ANATOMICAL HEART
As the exploration moved from writing into visual art, the anatomical heart became the natural center of the series.
I chose the human heart rather than the traditional symbol of love because I wanted something real complex, imperfect, vulnerable, resilient, and essential to life. For me, the anatomical heart represents much more than love. It carries memory, culture, identity, wounds, transformation, connection, and our instinctive desire to belong.
The heart became both the subject and the map.
And as I followed that map, five distinct territories began to emerge.
FIVE TERRITORIES. ONE HUMAN JOURNEY.
Roots explores where we come from—the memories, places, people, and experiences we continue to carry within us.
Voice examines what happens when our inner world finds expression—through words, art, vulnerability, and the courage to be heard.
Identity asks who we are and who we are becoming, exploring the colors, cultures, stories, places, and legacies that shape us.
Healing honors transformation—the process of confronting what has wounded us, recognizing our scars, and allowing something new to grow from what we have experienced.
Belonging brings the journey toward connection: the people, communities, rituals, and shared experiences that remind us that we have a place in this world.
Together, these territories became a way of navigating the heart—not as five separate subjects, but as interconnected parts of the human experience.
THE JOURNEY CONTINUES
What began with writing continues to evolve through paintings, sculpture, installations, community experiences, and The Heart Journey, a reflection I share every two weeks with my community.
The Heart Journey allows me to continue doing what started this entire series: observing, questioning, writing, and sharing what I discover along the way. Each reflection connects life back to one or more of the five territories, creating an ongoing conversation between the artwork, my own evolution, and the experiences of those who encounter it.
Today, The Heart Series is not the story of having found all the answers. It is the story of continuing to ask the questions.
It began with the desire to understand myself more deeply. Along the way, I discovered something much larger: a territory filled with culture, memory, vulnerability, resilience, identity, healing, and connection.
And I am still discovering it.
The heart is a territory to discover.

THE HEART IS A TERRITORY TO DISCOVER.
“The heart is more than a symbol. It is a territory where our roots, our voice, our identity, our healing, and our need to belong come together to tell the story of who we are.”
